What are good cards to pair "Marshmallon" with?

Main Post:

Hello, after playing one week of YGOPRO i realised that Marshmallon is my favourite card by far because i simply love the card effect. I pair it with cards like "Dark snake syndrome" and "wave motion canon" because they benefit from his stall style. I also run "Vanitys fiend" because i realised that my Marshmallon mostly got destroyed by enemy monster effects that were special summoned.

So has anyone some recommendations for me what could work well with Marshmallon?

Top Comment: Marshmacaron would be the obvious answer.

What do you pair with the World of Hyatt credit card?

Main Post:

Hey everyone! I’ve had my credit card for a while and it’s been amazing. Stayed at some pretty amazing Hyatt locations thanks to status and points, and intend to keep it around. However, I am planning on getting a second card.

For World of Hyatt credit card holders, what card do you pair it with?

I’ve thought about the AMEX Platinum for the perks (e.g., lounge, flight, Uber, etc.). I don’t mind the AF since I feel I would get a ton of mileage out of it. I thought about the Delta Plat too, but I don’t fly Delta often. Main airports I fly out of are LAX and SNA.

I also thought about the Sapphire Reserved because I heard the point conversion is great. I’ve heard a lot about the benefits of sticking with the Chase Trifecta too.

I would love all your thoughts. Thanks!

Top Comment: Strongest synergy would be Chase Sapphire Reserve for the points transfer and general flexibility. Chase Sapphire Preferred is also great at a lower annual fee. I personally also find value out of the Delta Reserve because I prefer to fly Delta domestically, but it’s a niche card. Amex Platinum gets you access plenty of perks and diversify your points balances, but doesn’t have a good earn rate on daily spend.

"Friendly" Cards to pair with King's Court

Main Post:

Hey all,

King's Court is amazing, we all know this. It's not hard to find stories of hilariously overpowered King's Court combinations. Some cards are just ludicrous with it (i.e. Torturer, Grand Market). Some cards don't pair all that well (Militia) and some don't really do anything differently (Tactician).

What are your favorite cards to use with King's Court for a friendly, balanced game? In other words, what are cards that are fun to use assuming nobody is going to chain King's Courts?

I'm going to introduce King's Court to my (very casual) playgroup soon, and I'd like to use cards that scale nicely with it, but don't totally throw everyone else out the window on first use either.

I.e. Militia and Ghost Ship feel lackluster. The "+$2" or "+2 Cards" triples, but the attack only hits once. On the other hand, Bandit or Torturer sound absolutely brutal.

  • So far, terminal draws seem pretty safe - you get the fun of drawing 9/12 cards, but still can't chain your deck unless you get another KC.
  • Gainers seem pretty okay, too.
  • Terminal +$ or +Buy also seem safe.
  • Cantrips just seem to be really chaotic unless they're the really innocuous ones like Harbinger or Pearl Diver. Cantrip money in particular seems like a terrible idea.
  • Cursing attacks in general seem like a good choice, since you have the satisfaction of the attack connecting more than once, but the curses will run out much faster too.

So, I've got some ideas of what I think they'd enjoy using (and what everyone else would enjoy having used against them), but I was just curious if anyone has had any specifically fun/non-punishing KC combos they've seen before.

Top Comment:

I dunno how much mileage there is at all in "assuming nobody is going to chain King's Courts". Like, of course you try to do that, it's great.

Throne room -> Throne room -> Card A -> Card B gets you four card plays from four cards. KC -> KC -> Card A -> Card B -> Card C gets you nine card plays from five cards.

If a Kingdom has time to get one KC before greening, it probably has time to get many. And that can still be fun, which is entirely subjective and maybe your group does or doesn't agree. Prosperity is the Timmy expansion. But I don't think KC has a middle ground, it either goes off or kind of isn't worth buying.

What’s the best commander for running a [[Wild Pair]] deck?

Main Post:

Second maybe only to [[Villainous Wealth]] and [[Aminatou’s Augury]], the card [[Wild Pair]] is easily one of my favorite to play in Magic. It’s super powerful, cheap, and can be abused to great result.

Right now I’ve been playing in the 10 power pool, because with 5/5’s alone, there’s some absolute monster cards: [[Avenger of Zendikar]] All the Bringers [[Craterhoof Behemoth]] [[Deadeye Navigator]] [[Diluvian Primordial]] [[Exquisite Archangel]] [[Gisela, Blade of Goldnight]]

And that’s just a sampling of highlights from A-G of just 5/5’s, there’s still all the other 10-sum-power-toughness-combos.

Now I’m trying to figure out the best commander to helm this crew and build it up to make the best of abusing the mechanic. I know Jim from Spike Feeders recently introduced a similar idea with his [[Saskia the Unyielding]] deck but that’s not quite my flavor. My original inclination is leaning toward [[Yarok the Desecrated]] so I can abuse the ETB’s of all the creatures coming and going. Edit: Also, as u/Sarahneth pointed out, Yarok also causes Wild Pair to trigger twice for each creature cast, making it extra spicy.

What do you all think? Anyone better you’d recommend for having Wild Pair going off?

Top Comment:

I legitimately have a Wild Pair deck, and I’m glad to see love out there for it lol. Take a gander at my recently updated list, and comment back if you have questions or comments! I think it goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway; As far as I’m concerned, doubling the trigger from Wild Pair makes Yarok the best commander for it. Being in (arguably) the strongest three color combination doesn’t hurt either.

Which card to pair with AMEX BUSINESS PLATINUM

Main Post:

Hello,

I was wondering what’s the best credit card combo / to pair with. I am even open to having 2-3 credit cards if that helps.

My goal is to collect the most aeroplan points and use it for travelling as I travel 3-5 times a year.

I currently have an Amex business platinum card and spend about $15,000 - $25,000 monthly using it for expense and personal spendings.

I do hear some things about pairing AMEX Platinum/Gold/Cobalt. As well some places do not accept AMEX, so I would consider a Visa card too!

Since I currently do have the AMEX BUSINESS PLATINUM CARD, is it necessary to get the TD AEROPLAN VISA INFINITE PRIVILEGE or the regular TD aeroplan visa infinite is good enough?

I was wondering if anyone can help me out and provide tips

Top Comment: If your goal is to accumulate Aeroplan points, then pair the Biz Plat with an TD Aeroplan Business Visa.

If I get a 4 of a kind and a pair what hand is that?

Main Post:

I'm holding an ace and a 10, I get three 10's on the flop, so I've already got four of a kind, now in the river or turn if an ace falls what hand do I hold? A four of a kind with a pair?

Top Comment: This is known as a full Quose ( quad full house) , second strongest hand in poker behind a extended straight flush (6 cards same suit in a row).

Does an MDFC count as a colour pair?

Main Post:

Using [[valentin, dean of the vein]] [[lisette, dean of the root]] as an example. Does the fact that it has G + B make it a colour pair that [[niv mizzet reborn]] would care about?

Top Comment:

Niv-Mizzet's triggered ability cares only about the front face, not the back face, of double-faced cards (modal or otherwise) in a player's library, and looks only at the colors in that face (C.R. 712.4a). Thus, that ability would see Valentin as black only.

(An object's color is not to be confused with color identity. In this example, Valentin's color identity includes black and green since the Valentin card has black and green among the mana symbols in both faces' mana costs and rules texts [C.R. 903.4, 903.4d, 207.1; see also C.R. 202.2]. By contrast, mana symbols on a card's back face don't contribute to that object's color while it's in a player's library [C.R. 202.2, 712.4a]. However, an object's color identity is not what Niv-Mizzet's triggered ability cares about.)

EDIT (Jul. 27): Edited, including because some rules were renumbered in the meantime. EDIT (Apr. 5, 2022): Correctness edit.
